Convoy Rules:

Safety is the number one priority and will take precedence in every decision regarding the convoy.   The mission of the convoy is "Safety in Numbers  but at the same time, we are here to have fun!

VEHICLES:

The East Coast Convoy is open to any military vehicle, foreign or domestic and convoy support vehicles.

ALL vehicles must be registered with the convoy in order to participate.  Participants must complete the registration form with the necessary information on the Registration Page.  There is a great amount of preparation and coordination that must be done long before any vehicles move in the convoy.  The number and type of vehicles will determine the routes, meeting times, and convoy order.  Without this knowledge, there may not be adequate fuel stops, safe grades, overpasses or safe minimum speed limits.

Vehicles MUST be able to maintain a minimum speed of 40 mph at all times!  Portions of the convoy route will take us on the Interstate Highway System where minimum speeds are required. This includes ALL towed vehicles.

Vehicles must have insurance and registration from their home state.

PARTICIPANTS:

The East Coast Convoy is open to any military vehicle owner and support vehicle.

You are encouraged to join us even if you do not have a military vehicle.  There is always space for passengers and a need for extra drivers.

CONVOY LINEUP:

The convoy lineup will be arranged from smallest vehicles to the largest.  A lead (front door) and rear (back door) vehicle with orange beacons is required.

"Convoy Ahead"
or "Convoy Follows" signage is required on the front and back door vehicles.

Support vehicles may be part of the convoy but should travel  after the largest military vehicle and  before the back door vehicle.

The back door vehicle is required to have amber safety beacons and working four way flashers, allowing faster approaching vehicles a clear vision of the convoy.

It is imperative that vehicles maintain a visible distance to the vehicle in front of them and behind them.  Keeping a tight group allows for participants to aid in potential breakdowns and reduces the potential for participants taking wrong turns.

Historic vehicles without working turn signals will be placed in the "rocking chair" position of the convoy.  Additional safety beacons are welcomed.

CONVOY ROUTE:

We have had much success in planning the route, fine tuning it each year.  Please visit the Convoy Route Page for specific meeting locations.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Radio equipment is helpful but not necessary.  We will be using military radios, hand-helds, and cb radios.

Escort Teams are required to have ample communication devices in their vehicle.

BREAKDOWNS:

In the event of a mechanical failure, the driver of the vehicle must notify the rest of the convoy either by radio or by signaling and pulling over.  The entire convoy will pull off the highway to a safe location until the failure is corrected.  Under NO circumstances will the convoy stop in an area that will jeopardize the safety of the participants or their vehicles.

TOLL BOOTHS:

Each participant is required to pay for his/her own tolls.  Upon exiting a toll booth, the front door vehicle will pull off of the highway to a safe location, allowing enough room for the rest of the convoy to park and catch up.  When all vehicles have navigated through the toll booth, the front door vehicle may proceed back onto the highway and continue along the designated route.

SAFETY:

Safety is the #1 priority during the convoy.  Convoy organizers will not accept drivers who do not practice safe driving techniques or failure to remain in the convoy group.

Drivers should inspect their vehicles prior to participating in the convoy.

Fire extinguishers, first aid kits, tool kits, amber safety beacons, and cell phones are recommended.

You are required to be accountable for your actions.  East Coast Convoy Organizers are not liable for damage or loss to personal property.
